COMSec Admin+ successfully tested in operational military context
Indra's COMSec Admin+ solution has been successfully tested in two military manoeuvres in recent months.
Wireless communication between different command posts by the Spanish Army
The first test took place in September, near Valencia (Spain). The manoeuvre consisted in the use of COMSec Admin+ to communicate two command posts, the brigade’s with the battalion’s, with two independent federated infrastructures linked via satellite.
These use cases are applicable to operational uses of COMSec Admin+, both in wireless command posts, and to secure communications in certain areas of operations over public mobile telephony, in missions abroad currently undertaken by the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
COMSec Admin+ in the modernization of the armed forces
The Spanish Army is currently in an innovation process that includes a series of initiatives under the name "Fuerza 35". Within these initiatives is outlined a new concept of organization for the brigades as a fundamental operational unit. This strategy includes aspects such as the following:
- Lightening of units and removing large command centres, giving rise to small units with a low logistic footprint, capable of operating in sync, without the need for high bandwidth.
- Intermittent communication capabilities: the new scenario assumes the use of electromagnetic energy as indirect types of fire, which can cause loss of communication and intermittent links.
- Autonomy and intelligence: tactical command and control positions must have ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) analytical capabilities, assuming multiple action areas in operations.
- Cyberdefence: a comprehensive combat system with needs and capabilities for generating information and protecting it.
In aspects such as those mentioned, is where Indra's COMSec Admin+ provides the following values:
- It can be integrated in all types of vehicles.
- Adapts to the type of communication available.
- Allows securing information hubs, so important in a type of non-linear battle scenario.
- Guarantees confidentiality in civil networks such as Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G thanks to end-to-end encryption.
- In addition, it is resistant to cyberattacks or electronic warfare and is resilient to disputed electromagnetic spectrum scenarios.
Intercommunication via private LTE between Navy ships
The second test was completed by the Spanish Navy last November. The purpose was to check the communications with the F-110 class frigate. These exercises aimed to test the intercommunication between a maritime action vessel and several semi-rigid vessels.
The test scenarios contemplated multi-bubble LTE configurations of the vessel with auxiliary vessels and radiant cable for communication within the vessel.
Offshore intercommunication is a fundamental need for control and surveillance missions such as the one usually carried out by maritime action vessel of the Navy. In the experiments, it was possible to verify how COMSec Admin+ provides three fundamental values: multi-channel versatility (LTE, satellite), quality and security, with a minimum impact on the user experience.
The highly satisfactory results of both tests show that COMSec Admin+ is an optimal solution for operational control communication in military missions.
About COMSec Admin+
COMSec Admin+, a solution suitable for the protection of mobile communications up to NATO Restricted level, is already used in various military or security scenarios, and the performance of this type of tests is a usual circumstance.
Indra's COMSec Admin+ was approved by the CCN (Spanish National Cryptologic Center) in 2018 as a tool for secure mobile communications.
COMSec Admin+ was included in the NATO Catalogue (NIAPC) (NATO Information Assurance Product Catalogue) as a suitable solution for the protection of mobile communications in August 2020.
